Without A Candidate



I have been waiting to make my first post in the Roberts Family Blog and I feel that now is the time to make this important post. Many have asked me, "Who do I support now that Mitt Romney has dropped out of the race?" As of right now I would say that I am a Republican without a candidate. I am just not even close to sold on anyone. After putting in 100's of hours as the Texas Grassroots Chairman for Romney in Texas I don't have anyone that I want to give that time to again. We all know that John McCain is going to be the nominee, but I will get to him in a minute. First, I will start with Mike Huckabee, the man who says he majored in miracles in college. We all know that the presidency is much more than cool one-liners and standing strong on the social issues. Actual decisions about taxes, spending, defense and other important policy issues will have to be decided each and every day. Other world leaders and staff members will not want to have the questions on what to do answered by,"well, my momma always said you can't put the cart before the horse." Then we get to his stance on having the so-called "fair tax" that calls for abolishing the IRS and having an across the board 26 or so % sales tax on all consumer goods. For this many, including me, ask "What about the tax breaks for owning your own home, children, education, health care etc.?" This tax would discourage home ownership and all of the the other things that build personal wealth and strong families in our country. In this interest of time I will explain my reasoning for John McCain. While I have a deep gratitude for all those who serve our country, like my Paw Paw Valton in WWII, I don't believe that this can be a driving force to be our President. McCain gives across a moral arrogance that is second to none. When asked in a debate why he was better suited than Governor Romney to lead our economy in the right direction in the world McCain said, "I was a prisoner of war for five years and served our country for 22 years." While that is admirable and makes for the qualities of leadership, a president must be able to understand and direct complex issues of domestic fiscal & economic policy that requires more than being in the Navy. Also, while a wealthy man himself through marriage and his own efforts, McCain would not let up on the money Romney had earned in the private sector. This is a lack of respect for others hard work that baffles me. And lastly McCain must prove he is actually a Republican with regards to tax cuts, immigration, and spending. This election continues to be interesting, but I am sorry to say that the best person for the job has already stepped down and until further notice I am a Republican without a candidate.

Okay, so this week I went to Mary Margarets in Houston and watched her two sweet kids, Margaret and Joshua. Mary was having their third child, way to go Mary! A boy by the way, Samuel John, 8lbs 10oz. Her kids were angels, look at the picture and that's pretty much how they looked all week. Meanwhile my child looked like this, see above pic. She cried for the whole first afternoon that we were there. She lost her voice from all the crying, kind of cute actually her little scratchy voice. She cried so much she made herself sick, yes my child who defys the odds and hardly gets sick from nursery, but can apparantly make herself sick, okay i'm making it up. For some reason my child is afraid of boys. Little boys, big boys, medium boys, boys that look like Joshua. She was a peach until Joshua entered the room. She would laugh until Joshua walked near by. She would eat until Joshua sat next to her. It was Unbelievable! It took an inordinate amount of patience to survive, but we did it and now she is home and herself again, Yeah!!!

1. Best thing you cooked last week? Chicken Enchiladas!!! I got this recipe from a friend in Farmington who made them for me when I had my gall bladder surgery. Apparently, she went through the same ordeal with a small baby but she didn’t have her super mom to help out. When I say super I mean SUPER HERO MOM! Thanks Momma.

2. If money, time and babysitting were no object, where would you go and with whom? First I would go to the Porsche dealership with Cory and Mary to purchase my new black Cayenne with burnt orange leather interior. I would then go to Park City to 1. Purchase my new home but at what course I don’t know? And 2. To see my fam. 3. I would then go probably to Hawaii. All I need is sun, a beach and Cory and I’m set!

3. When was the last time you cried? Almost on Sunday. So I found a friend who shares my same love for sassy humor and I told her jokingly on Sunday to find a seat in church because she was disrupting the meeting. She wrote me this jokingly nasty e-mail chewing me out and then Cory got mad at me even when I told him she was joking, so I apologized and she was totally joking and loved my sassy comment. Seriously I can’t remember the last time I cried probably a tear during a sacrament meeting or something. Oh, I remember now, I recently reach The Choice by Nicholas Sparks, and I was sobbing by the end, holy cow the tears were flowin.

4. Five things you were doing 10 years ago: 1. playing high school basketball 2. playing high school golf 3. Playing high school soccer, I think 4. Caddying for Pop’s 5. Wishing I were 18

Five Favorite Memories: 1) Getting Married/ falling in love 2) Being pregnant with Mary (I loved it, yaddi yaddi yaddi, it was hard and I threw up everyday and couldn’t get off the couch but come on, your growing life! After the first little bit It was such a high) 3) Giving birth to Mary; seeing/holding her for the first time; I’ll never forget them holding her up over the screen and hearing her cry 4) Qualifying for the Tour 5) Being on Tour with Cory!

One mans trash is another mans treasure

Okay, our neighbors down the street from us moved out on Tuesday. His car was in the back of the moving truck and by that afternoon they were out of there. On my way home from mutual at 8:45 p.m. I noticed this tv in their driveway near the gutter covered in water from the sprinklers. I stopped my car to take a look, it looked nice and big, so I give Cory a call and within 5 min. we're hauling this bad boy away in the back of our car. It felt a little like the movie, Fun with Dick and Jane. So now we have this baby in our room, cable hooked up and we are stoked. We've been wanting a tv in our room for sometime but can't justify it, so.... Cory in all his excitement tells me, "honey, you've won a state championship, made some clutch putts in your career, given birth to our daughter, but this is the most clutch thing you have ever done." What a man! All I can say is, "One mans trash is another mans treasure."

Paddle Ball, is it in you?

So who in the world can do the Paddle ball? Let alone what type of person invented the darn thing? So my record is about 10, I know amazing. Cory says he's seen people who can do it, I don't believe him. I mean look at Mary, she's a natural better than the rest of us. It's just not something that people should be able to do. If they can do it, they need to get a job or solve world hunger or something. I don't know I kind of like the thing. I mean it cost $1, has a picture of Dora and Boots on it and it has a ball that won't cause me to pull a hammy running down the road after it. If any of you have seen little Marys favorite game, she loves to throw golf balls down our hill and watch Mommy run after it, what a thrill. I'm sure the neighbors get a kick out of it. So I'll give the paddle ball a chance. Besides it hits the core of every competitive person out there. "Why can't I do this thing?" And then we spend the rest of our sanity trying to prove the dang paddle wrong. "Everygame needs a hero." "Is it in you?"

Bubbles that never die!

Okay, so I thought I had this ingenious idea that I would get Mary Ima bubbles that you could "hold in your hand!" Yes, great idea by the mommers. So this morning to avert her attention from cartoons (she watches alot but she learns so much, seriously)I brought out the never die bubbles. They started out great as you can see by picture numero uno. Then the never die bubbles were everywhere. They consumed our house, covering our t.v. couch, and floor. Cory especially didn't like them on his x-box controller, oh no! And as one of the pictures show they were stuck to Mary Ima's hair. Don't worry they disintegrate into hopefully non-toxic crap that is all over our house. Isn't funny that every child adores bubbles? Story for next post!
